According to MetroNewsUK:
Bernie Sanders may not have won the Democrat presidential nomination, but a lot of Americans still want to #FeelTheBern.
Among them is Jill Stein, the Green party’s probable presidential candidate, who has sensationally offered to step aside to allow Sanders to run for the White House.
Her announcement could be a major blow for the Democrats, as Stein told the Guardian that Sanders’ supporters are supporting the Greens over Hillary Clinton.
If Stein reaches 15% in national polling, she would be able to stand alongside Clinton and Trump in televised debates – but Stein has announced she is willing to stand down for Sanders.
She told the Guardian: ‘I’ve invited Bernie to sit down explore collaboration – everything is on the table.
‘If he saw that you can’t have a revolutionary campaign in a counter-revolutionary party, he’d be welcomed to the Green party. He could lead the ticket and build a political movement.
‘If he continues to declare his full faith in the Democratic party, it will leave many of his supporters very disappointed.’
She added that she made the offer over email at the end of the primary season, but is yet to receive a response.
Stein, who is expected to be endorsed at the party’s August convention in Houston, hopes to attract young voters who supported Sanders and has promised to wipe out college fees and existing student debt.
However, she is currently polling between 4% and 6%, well short of the 15% needed for a spot on the debates, and may not secure the 5% needed to give the Greens federal funding in the next election.
